ABOUT DSLR CAMERAS
If you have ever thought of going into indie film making or just photography and you have not
heard of or held a dslr camera, then you are so yesterday. The system is one of the most versatile
and most used in the industry today. Its development has come a long way and it keeps getting better.
Before I continue, what is a DSLR?
Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera is a digital camera that combines the optics and
the mechanisms of a single lens reflex camera with a digital imaging sensor, as opposed to
photographic film. DSLR camera uses a mirror mechanism to either reflect light from a camera
lens to an optical viewfinder which is an eyepiece on the back of the camera that one looks
through to see what they are taking a picture of or let light fully pass onto the image sensor
(which captures the image) by moving the mirror out of the way.
There are a couple of concepts you should read more about if you plan to get better at using the DSLR either for video or photography. They are basic concepts that will help you achieve better visuals.
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
- ISO – This increases the camera sensor’s sensitivity to light, but also increases that amount of digital noise.
- APERTURE - It is the size of the opening in the lens when the picture is taken.
- SHUTTER SPEED - This is how fast or slow the camera records the picture, the slower the shutter speed the more light that gets to the sensor.
- Exposure Compensation – This is handy for tweaking the exposure values that the camera determines.
- Custom White Balance – If you want perfect white balance, customizing it is you best option.
- FOCUS MODES – There’s fixed focus and servo focus, as well as a hybrid mode. it use depends on the movement of your subject.
- BACK FOCUS – Using the button on the back to focus can help you snap photos faster.
- FOCAL POINTS – Selecting one or several focus points can help you fine-tune your focusing.
- FLASH CONTROL – Knowing when and how to control your flash is important when lighting your image.
- SHOOTING MODES – Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual Mode.
Now naturally of course, you images or video will become better each day you use the camera. This are just a few concepts, there are a whole lot of other ideas that helps too. Keep reading and keep practicing .
